Talemetry Desktop Tools - Tips and Tricks

Tips and Tricks on Adding a Candidate to Talemetry Successfully

Can't See Desktop Tools in my Settings

  • You want to download the appropriate version of Desktop Tools (Chrome or IE) but you don't have the Desktop Tools Menu in your User|Settings
  • The following should be checked:
  • Your organization has been approved and activated for Desktop Tools.  Please contact your Company Admin or Talemetry Client Services
  • You must have a role with the "Desktop Tools" privilege (feature) enabled for the role.  Please contact your Company Admin to ensure that you are set up correctly with that role and privilege

Viewing Non-HTML Resumes in Browser

  • When viewing a resume in a browser, make sure it is not a PDF or an MSWord document that is being shown in the browser.
  • Check the address and look for ".pdf" or ".doc" or ".docx" at the end.
  • For these types of files, you need to first download them and then import them into Talemetry using the Import --> Add Candidate feature.

Selecting Resume Area on a Web Page

  • When Adding a candidate to Talemetry using the IE Plugin or Chrome Extension, you can either add the whole page (default) or you can first select the area/text in the browser and then click the Add to Talemetry button.
  • It is best to select an area on the web page under the following circumstances
  • There are more than one candidate profiles on the page (i.e. a list of candidates).  Select the text of one candidate at a time and then Add to Talemetry
  • The candidate profile or resume is in the middle of a page surrounded by lots of other information (i.e. header, footer, sidebar, ads, etc).  These things can cause poor extraction and are also not necessary to save with the candidate profile.  Select the text of just the candidate resume or profile and then Add to Talemetry
  • The extraction is poor.  Try selecting text of just the key information on the candidate profile or resume and then Add to Talemetry

Poor Extraction

  • If you try processing a resume in a browser, and you do not get First Name, Last Name, and/or Email extracted (when it is available on the page, try selecting text of just the key information on the candidate profile or resume and then Add to Talemetry

Adding a Candidate to Talemetry from a Local Web Page

  • If you have an HTML page containing a resume that you have saved on your local computer, you can process it using the IE Plugin.
  • Chrome Extension does not support processing local HTML file.  You can import them into Talemetry using the Import --> Add Candidate feature.
Changing to a Test Environment (Chrome Extension)
For troubleshooting or testing, if you are asked by the Talemetry Team to change your environment, please do the following
  • On a resume web page, click on the Add to Talemetry button
  • On the popup, right click and choose "Inspect Element"
  • Click on the Console tab
  • Enter the command: SettingUtils.setEnv("qa")
  • The response will be "undefined"
  • The above command is case sensitive
Once this is done, all calls that the Chrome Extension will make will be against the test environment.  You will need to reenter a key from a user on the test environment.
